A downloadable productivity microgame

Loosely based on the Pomodoro Technique.

Items needed:

  • timer or timer app
  • an assortment of dice (or a dice app)
  • a pencil
  • another game you're playing, or at least 6 prizes / incentives

Set a timer to work on something. Once the timer goes off, take a break and roll to see if you get a prize. You are aiming to roll under 4. The die you roll depends on how long you worked:

  • Less than 5 min. – d100
  • 5 min. – d20
  • 10 min. – d12
  • 15 min. – d10
  • 20 min. – d8
  • 25 min. – d6
  • 30 min. – d4
  • 35 min. or longer – d2

If you roll 4 or higher, go straight to taking a break. If you roll under 4, roll on a prize table before you take your break.

The items included in the d6 prize tables are small boosters for Over the Mountain and Apothecaria, but you can create items to use in a different game, or make a list of 6 other prizes / incentives to roll on. These can be physical, like stickers or flavors of Jolly Rancher, or digital / non-tangible, like something from your itch.io wish list or spending 10 minutes on a preferred activity.

Created in January 2024 for ttRPG JAMuary and Toucan Do It: Smol Games, Smol Time Frames.

What a cool minigame! Not only is this a nice supplement to my other games, it could also help me be more productive :)

Thank you! :)

Why rolling the d2 after 35 min of work if you are aiming at 4? Is it just to keep consistent with other possibilities?

Yes, exactly. It's a way to guarantee that you get to roll on a prize table if your session is 35 minutes or more.
